After too long a wait, I finally received my Barnes & Nobles order in the mail this evening:
What could make a rainy Wednesday evening better than receiving a Mad Men DVD box set in the mail?
For those unfamiliar with the series, especially since it's not shown in Singapore, I think it's easily described as the Gossip Girl for adults. Set in New York City, Mad Men begins in 1960 at the fictional Sterling Cooper advertising agency on New York City's Madison Avenue.
The show centres on Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm), the agency's creative director, and those in his life, in and out of the office. It also depicts the changing social mores of 1960s America.
Mad Men has received critical acclaim, particularly for its historical authenticity and visual style, and has won multiple awards, including three Golden Globes, a BAFTA and six Emmys. It is the first basic cable series to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series.
On top of the obvious addiction to the drama in the series, I can't help but to swoon over the dapper suits on the men, and perfect little frocks the ladies don - there was a time when people took such pains to dress up. It's unfortunate I didn't exist in that time. Tell me how you can not love the impeccable sets and clothes:
If you've yet to Mad Men Yourself, get crackin' on it. Here's mine:
'Cept that the scarf would be Hermès, and my heels would be much, much higher, of course. ;o)
